Eight SEO tips for advanced users
Most people are aware of the basic skills of SEO. Think of the use of title tags, the meta description, using certain keywords and making them appear in articles. But there are also lesser known SEO applications. In this article I want to introduce you to 10 of them. You may already know one and not yet use the other. In any case, you can take advantage of it.
1. Use Google authorship
Google Authorship shows in the search results who wrote a particular article. When there are 10 links on a page, 1 contains an image based on Google authorship, then there is a good chance that the relevant link will be clicked. Google Authorship is a combination of 2 things. Firstly, you must have a Google plus account and you must have it linked to the author page on your website. So you have to link these two together.
Through this link, Google will show your profile photo that you use in Google plus next to the search results.
2. Establish relationships with relevance communities
Others are also active within the sector where you are active. It is good practice to use relevant and active communities for link building and relationship building. For example, look for large forums and discussion platforms where you register.
After registration, it is useful to use your expertise. So don’t ask directly, but give. Make sure that others recognize you as the expert in that field with which you make it clear that you matter. Then you are going to get links, after all you are the expert.
3. Use oversized images
Maybe a bit flashy, but large images draw the eye. Large, well-crafted images make a difference because it attracts people and these images also attract visitors. Maybe to use, but you can prevent that, maybe to watch. The old adage, images say more than words, applies here. So choose something different and make a difference with images XL.
4. Use more social media than the big 3
Facebook, Twitter and Google plus. Chances are you use this, but think more broadly. There are more, many more social media websites that you can use. With that, the knife cuts both ways.
- Your website will get more links.
- Others will come to recognize you.
Your website is getting more links because you have submitted your website to more social networks. But you also build on your reputation and the more places you can find this reputation the better. So don’t just think in terms of quantity, but also long tail.
Good suggestions for social networks:
Hyves, Pinterest, Youtube, Ustream, Flickr, Myspace, Bebo, Yahoo, Xing and Delicious.
5. Question and answer websites
Besides forums, the Question and Answer sites are very useful to show your expertise. Here you simply ask a question and answer (s). These answers can be assessed. So it can be indicated how good or less good the answer is. In this answer you can of course mention your website at a certain point when you have written a good article about a question.
There are many question and answer sites. There is a few more famous Dutch-language site:
Goeievraag.nl and kwero.nl.
Yahoo Answers is a well-known English language site, as is Quora
6. Increase the speed of your website
Improving the speed of your website is now even more important than before. You increase the speed by using clean code, not running too many scripts and, for example, by using various plugins that increase the speed for WordPress, for example.
Also take a critical look at the server on which your website runs. Maybe this one is cheap, but not that fast.
You can put the speed to a good test on this site:
7. Use ‘above the fold’ effectively
When people visit your page, you don’t want them to leave immediately. Therefore, use the space that comes directly into view effectively. In the newspaper world this is called ‘above the fold’.
That is simply the part that is visible when you open webpage. If there is something on it that the user can use, or that answers his question, he will stay. If not, it will be gone immediately and will probably never come back.
So things like mailing list registrations, important content, interesting offers, initially at the top of the site!
8. Other forms of content (slideshow, infographics, video)
Use different forms of content. In a previous article I mentioned offering things like images and video. You can make content richer in even more ways. Consider the possibility of a slideshow with slideshow.com. You can then show a slideshow, for example of a powerpoint, on your webpage. It has extra added value.
Another possibility is to use so-called infographics. This is more than an image. It provides the reader with all kinds of information, but presented in an attractive way. If you make a good infographic, this can give a huge boost to links and visitors. Everyone on the internet loves infographics!
